Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device whose power consumption is reducible. SOLUTION: The display device has pixels in a matrix which each include a gate line, a data line, a sustaining electrode line, a switching element, a liquid crystal capacitor connected between switching element common voltages, and a storage capacitor connected between switching element sustaining electrode lines, and signal generating circuits which each generate a sustaining signal based upon a gate signal. The sustaining signal varies in voltage level right after the liquid crystal capacitor and storage capacitor are completely charged with a data voltage. Each of the signal generating circuits includes a sustaining signal application section to which a first control signal is applied and changes in operation state with a (k+1)th (k: a natural number) gate signal applied to the gate line and a control unit to which second and third control signals are applied and change in operation state with the (k+1)th gate signal, and a signal sustaining section which sustains the sustaining signal output from the sustaining signal application section for a predetermined time through the operation of the control unit.
