Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means capable of suppressing deposition of metal dendrite in a negative electrode by correctly monitoring the potential difference between a positive electrode and the negative electrode in a laminated type nonaqueous electrolyte lithium ion secondary battery suitable for mounting on a vehicle. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is equipped with a power generation element having at least one unit cell layer formed by laminating the positive electrode in which a positive active material layer containing a positive active material is formed on the surface of a positive current collector; an electrolyte layer in which a nonaqueous electrolyte is held in a separator; and the negative electrode in which a negative active material layer containing a negative active material is formed on the surface of a negative current collector in this order, an end surface part formed in each of the positive electrode and the negative electrode along one surface at almost right angle to the surface direction of the unit cell layer, and a reference electrode arranged so as to adjoin either one end surface part of the positive electrode and the negative electrode.
