Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for tracking a direction of a moving item by a laser bar code scanner and a computer readable medium. SOLUTION: The method includes: a step for sensing video transitions reflected from the packaging graphics of a moving item by a pair of scanning surfaces; a step for counting the number of video transitions sensed by each scanning surface out of the pair of the scanning surfaces; and a step for judging whether the moving item intersects with each scanning surface or not by comparing the number of video transitions counted in each scanning surface out of the pair of scanning surfaces with a prescribed threshold in a first sample. In a second sample in time, these steps are repeated. The method further includes an additional step for evaluating the moving direction of the moving item from changes observed from the first and second samples. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
