SOLUTION: This front plate for an AC-type plasma display panel comprises: a transparent glass substrate 2; a discharge electrode 3 formed on the transparent glass substrate; a dielectric layer 6 formed on the transparent glass substrate in a form covering the discharge electrode; and a dielectric protective layer 7 formed on the dielectric layer, and made of an inorganic compound having a murdochite type structure and having a basic composition formula represented by Mg6MnO8.
