Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new hydroxylated fullerene having high solubility in water and high active oxygen scavenging capacity and a method for easily and efficiently producing the hydroxylated fullerene in a mass at a low cost. SOLUTION: A hydroxylated fullerene having hydroxy group and a nitrogen-containing group comprising amino group and/or nitro group is synthesized by bringing fullerene into contact with oxygenated water and one or more compounds selected from ammonia and amine compounds.
