Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enlarge an available load region for the self-ignition of an otto engine. SOLUTION: This method for operating an internal combustion engine, particularly, the otto engine with controlled self-ignition comprises introducing fuel-air mixture into a combustion chamber, and compressing it in a compression stroke V. Spark ignition generates flame sheets in the fuel-air mixture at one or more positions during the compression stroke V for compressing and/or heating the remaining fuel-air mixture to release the self-ignition.
