Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition excellent in gas barrier properties and adhesion with a thermoplastic resin layer, and to provide an aqueous coating liquid using the resin composition, the coating liquid having low foamability and high anti-foaming properties. SOLUTION: The resin composition comprises a water soluble polyvinyl alcohol resin (A) having a 1,2-diol structural unit represented by general formula (1) and a water-swellable layered inorganic compound (B), wherein R1, R2and R3each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an organic group; X represents a single bond or a chain link; and R4, R5and R6each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an organic group.
