Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change valve open/close timing in a wide range and maintain the valve open/close timing at timing as controlled. SOLUTION: Relative rotation speed of an output shaft of an electric motor and a sprocket is reduced at reducing ratio R(1) and phase of the intake valve is change when phase of the intake valve is in a first region between the most retarded angle and CA(1) in a variable valve timing device. Relative rotation speed of the output shaft of the electric motor and the sprocket is reduced at reducing ratio R(2) (R(1)>R(2)) and phase of the intake valve is changed when phase of the intake valve is in a second region between CA(2) (CA(2) is in advanced angle side than CA(1)) and the most advanced angle. Phase of the intake valve is changed in same direction in both of the first region between the most retarded angle and CA(1) and the second region between CA(2) and the most advanced angle as far as relative rotation directions of the output shaft of the electric motor and the sprocket is same.
