POLYESTER RESIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin capable of forming moldings excellent in gas barrier property, ultraviolet screening property, color tone and the like and suitable for molding bottles of foods and drinks and the like which bottles are required aroma retaining property. SOLUTION: The polyester resin is produced by polycondensation of a dibasic acid component composed mainly of terephthalic acid or an ester forming derivative thereof with a diol component composed mainly of ethylene glycol through esterification reaction or ester exchanging reaction, wherein the content of the copolymer component other than the terephthalic acid component and the ethylene glycol component is 4 mol% or less based on the total dicarboxylic acid component and the difference between absorbance at 395 nm wavelength and the absorbance at 800 nm wavelength and of a molded product having 0.5 mm thickness and injection molded at 200°C is 0.08 or more and similarly the difference between absorbance at 500 nm wavelength and the absorbance at 800 nm wavelength is 0.05 or less.
