PROGRAM VIDEO RECORDING AND REPRODUCING APPARATUS AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program video recording and reproducing apparatus and a program capable of effectively utilizing a capacity of a storage memory by re-coding a recorded program and compressing or erasing the re-corded program. SOLUTION: The program video recording and reproducing apparatus updates the storage memory 102 by re-coding and compressing the recorded program or erasing it depending on a utilizing state (any of reference frequency, non viewing time, recording date and time, and learning information obtained by learning a view characteristic of a user) by the user for the storage memory 102 for storing the video recording program. Thus, a re-coding and erasure processing discrimination section 106 compares criterion data stored in a criterion storage section 104 with discrimination information stored in a discrimination information storage section 103 to start re-coding or erasure processing of an object recording program.
