Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for working sponge titanium ingot where a yield can be increased, and the improvement of quality as that for an extrusion material can be attained; and to provide a working device used therefor. SOLUTION: The bottom shape of sponge titanium 1 ingot produced by a reaction vessel in which a rooster is arranged at the bottom part is measured, and the bottom is cut in such a manner that the difference in cut thickness between the central part at the bottom and the circumferential part at the bottom is reduced. The measurement of the bottom shape can be simply performed by measuring the dent depth in the center of the bottom part. The cutting speed of cutting edges 7 is desirably controlled to ≤20 m/min. The method can be easily performed by a working device having a function in which cutting edges move from the circumferential part of the bottom to the central part of the bottom in sponge titanium ingot, and a function in which the cutting edges move to the direction of the central axis of the sponge titanium ingot.
