Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus such as a digital still camera with a lower power consumption than before. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: a solid-state image sensor 1; a vertical transfer drive circuit 2 for supplying a sub-pulse to the solid-state image sensor 1; and a control circuit 8, and repeats a series of photographing operations including an exposure operation which exposes an imaging area at a cycle which is equal to or longer than a period in which a series of photographing operations are performed after providing the sub-pulse to the solid-state image sensor 1 and discharging an electric charge stored in a pixel. The control circuit 8 stops supplying the sub-pulse to the solid-state image sensor 1 from the vertical transfer drive circuit 2 during a period when an exposure operation included in the series of photographing operations is not performed.
