Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crack detecting method capable of detecting the crack of a black skin slab inexpensively and precisely; and also to provide a crack detector of the slab. SOLUTION: In the crack detecting method of the slab for detecting the lateral crack present in the corner part of a material to be inspected made of a magnetic metal material such as the slab or the like by an E-type eddy current sensor, the distances between the E-type eddy current sensor and the front or back and side surface of the material to be inspected are respectively kept constant and a scanning plate insulated from the uneven shape or properties of the front or back of the material to be inspected is arranged.
