Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper based sintered friction material which can maintain wear resistance and a high friction coefficient even in the case the temperature of the friction material is exposed to high temperatures of ≥500°C by suppressing the plastic flow of copper by using reinforcing particles to the base material of copper. SOLUTION: In the copper based sintered friction material obtained by sintering blended powder using copper as a base material and comprising a lubricant and abrasives, the copper base material is made into a mixed base material obtained by finely dispersing tungsten carbide powder of 1 to 7.5 mol% into electrolytic copper powder, thus the tungsten carbide powder suppresses the plastic flow of the copper base material upon high temperature. In the method for producing a copper based sintered friction material, a mixed base material obtained by mixing copper and tungsten carbide and the other blending materials are further mixed, and thereafter, the mixture is subjected to press sintering. Since the mixing amount of the tungsten carbide is small, by previously mixing the same with copper, the material compounding between the copper base material and tungsten carbide is obtained, and the tungsten carbide effectively acts as reinforcing particles.
