Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the whole throughput of an optical communication system, by allowing the optical line terminal to discriminate a degree of error correction coding with error correction capabilities different from each other applied to signals from each of the optical network units, and applying the degree to the optical network units. SOLUTION: The optical communication system 1 includes optical fibers (70, 71), the optical network units (ONU) 90, and the optical line terminal OLT 10. The optical line terminal OLT 10 applies discrimination of the degree of excellent error correction coding for signal transmission to the signals received from the ONU 90. Then the optical line terminal OLT 10 informs the ONU 90 about information denoting the degree of the error correction coding. The discrimination is carried out by using at least one of the error rate, the signal strength and the round trip time of the signal transmission. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
