Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a plasma display panel which manufactures a plasma display panel having stable characteristics by formation of a favorable protective layer. SOLUTION: While a substrate K on which a thin MgO layer is formed by vapor deposition or sputtering is mounted and heated on a support table 541 equipped with a planar heater, a coating liquid 501 in which a MgO powder is dispersed in a solvent is applied by spraying thereon to form a single crystal MgO power layer. In the next step, the single crystal MgO power layer is baked to form a crystalline MgO layer. The solvent volatilizes immediately after the application and does not remain, and property changes such as deliquescence of the MgO and adsorption of impurities do not occur, forming the favorable protective layer with a sufficient thickness.
