PROJECTION IMAGE DISPLAY APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection image display apparatus in which improvement in chromaticity value is made by modifying a conventional color separation unit. SOLUTION: A reflecting face 222 is disposed on the inside of the incident opening plate 22 of a rod integrator 24, except an opening 221. Further, a first polarization separating prism 211 and a second polarization separating prism 212 are vertically arranged on the emission side of the rod integrator 24, the prisms 211 and 212 having the identical polarization characteristic in which, for example, light in a first polarization direction is reflected and light in a second polarization direction is transmitted. A 1/4-wavelength plate 23 is disposed on the rod integrator side faces of the first and second polarization separating prisms 211 and 212. The second polarization separating prism 212 is further provided with a total reflection plate 213 disposed on the outside of the 1/4-wavelength plate 23. A dichroic mirror 26 is disposed on the side face of the prism 212, which side face is opposite the rod integrator 24. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
