PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer which can take a larger rotating angle of a lever member even if the length of the lever member for driving separation and approach between a platen roller and a thermal head is made shorter. SOLUTION: A lever 16 is formed to be bent into an "L shape" when seen from the front surface is turnable, has a specified thickness and a specified width, and is made of resin. The lever 16 is constituted of a lever base 16d, a lever intermediate section 16c, and a lever tip 16a which is extended from the lever intermediate section 16c. Then, the lever intermediate section 16c is extended by being bent at a specified angle from the lever base 16d in the same direction as a direction in which the lever 16 is turned when a cover member moves from an opening position to a closing position. Also, on the lever base 16d, a shaft hole 16e as a shaft supporting section, and an engaging hole 16f with which the engaging shaft (a) of a release rod is engaged are formed.
