Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coating method and apparatus which can prevent wet spreading, wet shrinkage, and turbulence of a coating liquid at the end parts in the width direction of a slot die, especially in coating a low viscosity film, to increase a coatable area, thereby nearly the whole coating film in the width direction can be manufactured as a product, thus improving the product yield, and to provide manufacturing methods of optical film and antireflection film. SOLUTION: The coating method applies the coating liquid on a web W continuously running while being supported by a backup roller 11 by using a slot die 12. In the method, coating is performed in such a state that the slot die tip 12A is recessed so that a clearance difference L between the center part and both ends in the width direction of the slot die tip 12A with respect to the backup roller 11 becomes 1-10 μm.
