Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an end-pumping vertical external resonance type of surface emitting laser. SOLUTION: This laser is formed of a transparent substrate, an optical pump located so that a pumping beam is irradiated on one surface side of the transparent substrate, and a first light-transmissible insulating material on the other surface of the transparent substrate. Further, the laser is provided with a first non-reflective coating layer which reduces an incidence loss of the pumping beam, a scattering Bragg reflector layer formed on the first non-reflective coating layer, a periodic gain layer formed on the scattering Bragg reflector layer, and an external resonance mirror located opposite to the periodic gain layer.
