SOLUTION: A carried catalyst for hydrogenating ester-containing aldehyde into a corresponding alcohol comprises γ-aluminum oxide having a BET surface area of 70-350 m2/g as a carrier and nickel or cobalt or a combination of the two as a hydrogenation activating metal.
