Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display technique capable of displaying a bright scroll video of high quality in a projection type video display device. SOLUTION: A polarization conversion and color separation system limits separated color light beams to color light beams transmitted through a light transmission area of a mask, which is approximately parallel with an array direction of pixels within a video display element, by the light transmission area to form a color bar without color mixture and reflects color light beams which are not transmitted through the light transmission area, in a light reflection area of the mask and returns them to the light transmission area side of the mask to cause them to be transmitted through the light transmission area and utilizes them for color bar formation.
