Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a part left over from crushing when absorbing a shock in a collision energy absorbing member for a vehicle. SOLUTION: In this manufacturing method for the energy absorbing member, a steel plate material having an area ratio P of austenite phase of 0.03 or more and 0.46 or less is first prepared (S10). Next, each wall member constituting the energy absorbing member 10 is formed by using the steel plate material (S12). Each steel plate is combined, and laser output E is set to 1 kW or more and 8 kW or less to join the steel plates mutually by line welding (S14) by using a laser welding machine on a matching surface to form the energy absorbing member (S16).
