PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method in which recording data and spare data are recorded efficiently in a disk. SOLUTION: When the data recording processing is performed in the disk, the recording data and spare data being the copy of the recording data are generated, and these data are recorded respectively in respective layers of the disk or recorded in the same layer, for example. In this configuration, even when the reproduction error of recording data occurs by various causes such as scratch and dirt on the disk and deterioration of a property, it is possible to reproduce the recording data based on the spare data, thereby reproducing/reproducing the data enhanced in h reliability. Also, since the recording data and the spare data of the prescribed recording unit are recorded without delaying for an encoding processing time by control of the controller, it is possible to record the recording data and the spare data within processing time equal to that for one data.
