Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin planar lighting device in which unevenness of luminance is suppressed while maintaining high luminance, and a liquid crystal display device having the same. SOLUTION: The planar lighting device 2 is provided with a cold cathode tube 12 having a rod shape and a light guide plate 18 which has a rectangular light emitting face 18a and an inclined face 18d which is provided on the opposite side of the light emitting face 18a and is inclined against the light emitting face 18a, and emits the light from the cold cathode tube 12 from the light emitting face 18a.
