Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an LED-based light source for a liquid crystal backlight display, which achieves uniform emission and shows superior characteristics in suppressing heat scattering and light loss. SOLUTION: A light source device comprises: a light source consisting of an arranged array of plural LED dies 71; a reflector 72; and a light pipe 73 made of a transparent material layer. According to the device, light emitted vertically from the LED die 71 is reflected by the reflector 72 to fall onto the light pipe 73. The size and cross sectional shape of the reflector 72 is selected so that the light that is emitted from the LED dies 71 to be reflected first at the upper face 74 or lower face 75 of the light pipe 73, can be reflected at an angle larger than the critical angle θc, that is, can be totally reflected. Light, when hitting the lower face 75, is reflected again at an angle larger than the critical angle, or is scattered at a scattering center 78 on the lower face 75. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
