Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which has liquid crystal aligned uniformly in one direction outside a pixel part without making the pixel part small and also prevents alignment defects of the liquid crystal. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element has a master substrate 2 and a slave substrate 1 which are opposed to each other and has electrodes and alignment films on opposite surface sides respectively and has the nematic liquid crystal held between those substrates, and is characterized in that pretilt angles of nematic liquid crystal molecules on the interface of a 1st alignment film 4 provided on a pixel part and a non-pixel part of the master substrate 2 are equal to pretilt angles of nematic liquid crystal molecules on the interface of a second alignment film 5 provided on a non-pixel part of the slave substrate 1.
