EDGE ROUTER AND METHOD FOR DETECTING FAILURE OF MPLS PATH

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent undetection of a failure based on poor label transformation of a core router in the case of failure detection of an MPLS path. SOLUTION: One value is used for transformation of an exterior label of a packet for failure detection and an exterior label of a packet for communication in the core router 100 by transmitting the packet for failure detection to which a label for failure detection having the exterior label which is the same as that of the label for communication is added to the MPLS path for failure detection by a packet transmitting part 4, when the failure is generated in the transformation of the exterior label by the core router 100, since the failure is surely reflected on the exterior label of the packet for failure detection, the failure in the label transformation in the core router 100 is detected without overlooking it if only response packets from destination edge routers 10-19 to the packet for failure detection are monitored by a failure monitoring part 6.
