CUSTOMER LINE TERMINATING EQUIPMENT AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide customer line terminating equipment and a communication system which enable the installed position of the customer line terminating equipment to be specified, and prevent illegal access. SOLUTION: The cable modem 1 connected between a telephone set 18 and a CATV network 2 and including an IP phone function capable of attaining a speech by the telephone set 18 is constituted of: a connector unit 11 to which one end of a cable 10 is connected, the other end of the cable 10 being connected to the CATV network; an insertion withdrawal detection section 14 configured to output an ON signal as a detected value V when the cable 10 is connected to the connector unit 11 for the first time and to output an OFF signal as the detected value V when the cable 10 is withdrawn from the connector unit 11 and even if the cable 10 is connected to the connector unit 11 afterward; and a control section 12 that validates the IP phone function of a modem function section 13 when the detected value V of the insertion withdrawal detection section 14 is an ON signal, and invalidates the IP phone function of the modem function section 13 when the detected value V of the insertion withdrawal detection section 14 is an OFF signal.
