PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the effect of ambient noises in calling by adjusting the setting of a voice related to at least one of telephone transmitting and receiving in response to the level of the ambient noises. SOLUTION: A telephone device monitors the ambient noises by using a microphone 7. When the ambient noises are large in a hand-set calling, a telephone-receiving level is elevated, the threshold-value level of the telephone transmitting is elevated and an echo canceller 9 is turned OFF.
