Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ultrahigh molecular weight ethylene-α-olefin copolymer having a low melting point and excellent balance between transparency and mechanical strength. SOLUTION: The method for producing the ultrahigh molecular weight ethylene-α-olefin copolymer satisfying the following essential conditions (i) and (ii) involves copolymerizing ethylene and an α-olefin in the presence of a polymerization catalyst obtained by bringing the following component (A) into contact with the component (B): component (A): a solid catalytic component containing a titanium atom, a magnesium atom, a halogen atom and an ester compound, and having ≤80 m2/g specific surface area by a BET method; component (B): an organoaluminum compound; (i) having 5-30 dl/g intrinsic viscosity [η]; and (ii) having 110-130°C melting point measured by differential scanning calorimetry.
