Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To oxidize a cycloalkane in a good conversion rate by oxidation of the cycloalkane with oxygen and to produce a cycloalkanol and/or a cycloalkanone with good selectivity. SOLUTION: The cycloalkane is oxidized with the oxygen in the presence of a catalyst comprising gold supported on cerium oxide. The oxidation reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of a radical initiator. An azonitrile compound such as 2,2'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) is preferred as the radical initiator.
