Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make butt connection possible with high aligning accuracy for optical fibers in a mechanical splice, and also to facilitate the butt connection with superior workability without using an exclusive connecting tool. SOLUTION: A metallic ferrule 7 is installed between a base plate 3 and a holding plate 4 of mechanical splice 1. Optical fibers are connected by butting against each other inside the metallic ferrule 7. Accordingly, in their connecting part, no optical fibers are in direct contact with the base plate 3 nor the holding plate 4 and optical fibers are free from the pressure clamping.
