Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide procedure which provides access to the thoracic cavity without causing extensive trauma to a patient and which is relatively simple to perform, incorporates simple and reliable instruments and at least locally stabilize a prescribed surface area of the heart. SOLUTION: A surgical instrument (100) comprises a frame structure (102) including proximal and distal portions. The proximal portion is repositionably mountable to a base (12) and the distal portion is provided with a pair of leg portions (104a, 104b) formed so as to abut on a prescribed surface area of the heart of the patient.
