Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for discriminating vehicle body colors which can discriminate vehicle body color inexpensively and quickly without performing advanced image processing. SOLUTION: The license plate of a vehicle is detected on the basis of a photographed color image of the vehicle, and a position coordinate 30 of the detected license plate is set. A vehicle body color discriminating area 31 of a shape such as polygon or circle is set in a region of a relative position predetermined from the set license plate position coordinate 30, and the color of the set area 31 is discriminated as a vehicle body color.
