Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum-matrix composite material which uses alumina as a reinforcing material and has the enhanced characteristics of the composite material, and to provide a method for producing the aluminum-matrix composite material. SOLUTION: The method for producing the aluminum matrix composite material comprises the steps of: mixing magnesium powder 15 with the reinforcing material 12 to form a porous compact 16; mounting a billet 17 on the porous compact 16; heating the billet 17 and the porous compact 16 to the sublimation temperature of the magnesium powder 15 in a nitrogen atmosphere; making magnesium 38 react with nitrogen 32 to produce magnesium nitride 41, and making the magnesium nitride 41 react with the reinforcing material 12 to produce a spinel layer 13; and heating the resultant compact to the melting point of the billet 17 to make an aluminum alloy 11 permeate into the porous compact 16 and make the aluminum alloy form aluminum nitride on the spinel layer.
