Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method where, at the time when hexaboride particulates suitable as a sunshine-shielding material are subjected to coating treatment, the decomposition of hexaborides caused by moisture in a solvent is suppressed, and to provide surface-coated hexaboride particulates obtained by the method and whose water resistance is improved. SOLUTION: A surface treatment agent such as a metal alkoxide comprising a metal such as Si is added to hexaboride particulates dispersed into a solvent, so as to be mixed. Simultaneously with the addition thereof, or before or after that, a boron-containing aqueous solution is added, and, while the decomposition of the hexaboride particulates is suppressed, a coating layer composed of a coating compound essentially consisting of a metal oxide such as SiO2is formed on the surface thereof.
