IMAGE READING DEVICE AND IMAGE READING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of shortening the overall processing time. SOLUTION: As shown in Figure (A), after preliminary scanning a plurality of images 124 on a photographic film, designating an image 124S to be processed and detecting the image 124S to be processed, the photographic film is carried at a high speed, up to the position where the reading conditions of the image 124S can be set; and when reading the image 124S, the photographic film is carried at a carrying speed in fine-scanning, and the high-speed transporting of the photographic film is restarted, when the reading is finished and then the photographic film is discharged. When the designated image to be processed consists of adjacent images, as shown in Figure (B), the image 124S is processed in the same way as the case with that shown in Figure (A), until the reading of the image is finished. Thereafter, the photographic film is returned to the position, where the reading conditions of an image 124S' to be processed can be set, and then fine-scanning of the image 124S' is conducted.
