Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact discharge luminescent device with a uniform brightness throughout to an end and a close-contact image sensor using the same. SOLUTION: The discharge luminescent device has a dielectric layer 4 formed so as to have an end of the electrode 3 formed on one substrate 2 constituting a discharge space exposed by notching and the other part covered, and has a phosphor layer 5 installed on the dielectric layer 4. Provided a given relative brightness ratio of a center part to an end of the discharge luminescent device is ΔKmax, a ratio of a phosphor width B at the center part to that A at the notched part of the end part is to be ΔKmax, in the phosphor layer 5 having the notch at the end part provided on the dielectric layer 4.
