CONTROL DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING VARIABLE GAS EXCHANGE VALVE IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for controlling variable gas exchange valves of an internal combustion engine, capable of securely preventing collision of the gas exchange valves. SOLUTION: In this control device and method for the variable gas exchange valves (310, 320) of the internal combustion engine, an operating element control device (150) operates the gas exchange valves (310, 320) by control of valve operation elements (210, 220), considering a status value (40) and a control rated value (20). The control device and method include at least one measure in which the gas exchange valves (310, 320) are operated before the operating element control device (150), a collision protection device (100) checks at least whether or not the control of the valve operation elements (210, 220) using the control rated value (20) causes collision between one of the gas exchange valves (310, 320) and the other of the gas exchange valves (310, 320), and the collision protection device (100) prevents possible collision when the possibility of collision is detected.
