ENERGY DETECTION RECEIVER FOR UWB

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy detection receiver for UWB. SOLUTION: By replacing an analog/digital circuit with a simple energy detection circuit, a receiver part of an UWB radio device is changed. According to various embodiments, a method for encoding a transmitter is changed so as to support a simplified receiver structure. For instance, instead of encoding the data to be transmitted to the phase of an UWB signal, the data is encoded to a frequency sub-band of individual UWB signal, in a binary form. Thus, even though there is a possibility of the usable bandwidth of a channel being reduced, the complexity and power consumption of the UWB device are also reduced. In another embodiment, the UWB device can select a transmission mode (BPSK or energy encoding), based on the environment of the UWB device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
