MAGNETIC RECORDING/REPRODUCING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording/reproducing device capable of executing recording/reproducing even when the output polarity of a reproducing signal is reversed. SOLUTION: The polarity of a waveform obtained by equalizing the reproducing waveform of a gray code (cylinder number) in a servo sector 3 by a matched filter (MF) is detected, or an output polarity is always detected from the reproducing waveform of the area of a magnetic disk 1 where a special pattern for output polarity detection is recorded. When polarity reversal is detected, a reading error is generated to inhibit seeking or following based on decoded position information. The polarity of an output signal is reversed by a polarity reversing device 8 in a read/write channel 7 or disposed in a pre-stage, and then servo and recording/reproducing operations are resumed.
