Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylindrical carbon structure hardly causing aggregation, capable of being isolated and dispersed and having various excellent characteristics such as conductivity and strength and to provide its manufacturing method and to provide a gas storage material, a composite material and its reinforcing method, a sliding material, a field emission, a surface analyzer and a coating material using the cylindrical carbon structure. SOLUTION: The cylindrical carbon structure having an uneven outer surface, a diameter of ≥0.5 nm and ≤100 nm and a single layer structure is formed by passing through an immersing process in which a raw material carbon nanotube is immersed in a solution containing an acid or an alkali and a defect is introduced into the raw material carbon nanotube and a heating process in which the raw material carbon nanotube to which the defect is introduced at the immersing process is heated at ≥1,000°C and ≤2,000°C in vacuum or in an inert atmosphere to impart unevenness at the outer surface of the carbon nanotube.
