SOLUTION: In the optical recording material used in an optical recording medium, to which the recording of information is possible by the irradiation of light, a coloring matter made of a squalirium compound expressed by general formula (1) is included, wherein Bz represents a benzyl group, R1represents an alkyl group or a benzyl group, R2represents an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or an aryl group, Q1represents an atomic group consisting of an aromatic ring and A represents a univalent group expressed by general formula (26) or the like.
