Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can calculate an appropriate correction amount of a scanning line positional deviation even when there are disturbances in an environment variation such as temperature, humidity and the like, and in a change of an apparatus installation state, and can highly precisely correct the scanning line positional deviation, and to provide a correcting method of a scanning line positional deviation. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises laser beam detecting means P1 and P2 for detecting a scanning state of laser beams, toner pattern detecting means 22-24 for detecting a toner pattern, and a liquid crystal deflection element 15 as a correcting means for correcting the scanning state of the laser beams. The liquid crystal deflection element 15 is controlled by a control means 5 on the basis of detected values of the laser beam detecting means P1 and P2 and the toner pattern detecting means 22-24.
