Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing measurement or calibration on apparatus, such as measuring machines, machine tools, or scanning machines, in which a tool or probe is positioned relative to a workpiece. SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises two structures each with three supports spaced in a triangular array thereon. The supports may be balls or sockets. The structures are interconnected by six members and each support has the ends of two members connected to it. When the apparatus is used as a calibration device, the members are telescopically driven measuring bars and the structures are respectively connected to fixed and movable parts of a machine so that the displacement of the machine parts causes relative displacement between the structures and varies the lengths of the measuring bars. When the apparatus is used as a machine, the members are struts powered by one of the structures. The one of the structures is capable of carrying a tool or probe to position the tool or probe relative to a workpiece, and of being operated relative to the other of the structures.
