Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display apparatus permitting clear visible recognition of a video which can be displayed even if a light quantity varies, which does not display the video but comes into eyes. SOLUTION: An output signal of a light quantity sensor 6 is input to a CPU 11. Original video information of the video to be displayed is stored in the CPU 11. Receiving the signal from the light quantity sensor 6, the CPU 11 makes modifications on the original video information according to the signal, and sends out the information to an image processing device 12. The image processing device 12 converts this information into a signal for driving an LCD driver 14 and gives an instruction to the LCD driver 14. Based on this instruction, the LCD driver 14 actually drives a liquid crystal element 15 and the video is displayed on the liquid crystal element 15. Receiving the signal from the light quantity sensor 6, the CPU 11 controls lightness of the background and the video by controlling brightness of the back-light 13 and relative lightness of each pixel.
