METAL BINUCLEAR COMPLEX AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal binuclear complex useful as a hydrogenation catalyst, and to provide a method for producing the same in an one-pot way. SOLUTION: The metal binuclear complex is represented by the general formula(1) [ wherein, M is Ru, Rh, Os or Ir; and L1to L6are each a phosphorus ligand represented by PR1R2R3( R1to R3are each a 1-18C alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl ) ]. The method for producing the metal binuclear complex comprises reacting a compound of the formula MCl3-(H2O)m( wherein, M means the same as the general formula(1); and m is 0, 1, 2 or 3 ) with formaldehyde in the presence of a phosphorus ligand-forming compound to form a metal (hydrido)halide complex, which is then reacted with an alkali metal hydroxide in an alcohol solvent followed by reaction with a phenolic compound.
