Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the butene derivative under mild reaction conditions in a high yield and at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 3,4-dihydroxy-1-butene (hereinafter referred to as 3,4-DHBE), comprising hydrolyzing 3-hydroxy-4-acetoxy-1-butene (hereinafter referred to as 3,4-HABE) and/or 3-acetoxy-4-hydroxy-1-butene (hereinafter referred to as 3,4-AHBE) with water in the presence of an acid catalyst, is characterized in that at least one selected from the group consisting of 3,4-HABE and 3,4-AHBE is obtained by distilling a mixture containing at least one of 3,4-HABE and 3,4-AHBE from a reaction product obtained by the acetoxylation reaction of 1,3-butadiene with acetic acid in the presence of molecular oxygen and a palladium-based catalyst and separating.
