Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmission device for an electric automobile and a control method thereof capable of securely preventing the vehicle from reversing while reducing a motor heat load even under a stall state. SOLUTION: This power transmission device for the electric automobile is provided with a motor 105 for vehicle traveling which operates in accordance with a motor command torque; an electromagnetic two-way clutch 109 for interrupting a power transmission route by non-energizing/energizing; a speed detector 116 for detecting a vehicle speed; and a break switch 114 for detecting the motion of a brake pedal. The power transmission device determines whether or not brake pedal releasing is continued for at least a predetermined period with vehicle speed at zero and, if YES, the electromagnetic two-way clutch is energized. The motor command torque is set so as to reduce the motor output torque, and the electromagnetic two-way clutch is kept non-energized, thus a hill holding state is maintained under a stall state on an uphill road.
